Here in the Greater Seattle area, we experience 4 distinct seasons. Winter brings light snow on occasion, cold winds, and daytime temperatures in the mid 40’s and the lows in the mid 30’s. Spring gets the trees budding out with highs in the upper 50’s and lows in the low 40’s. Summer is spectacular with the highs in the upper 80’s and lows in the 50’s. And then comes fall with unbelievable leaf color and temperatures with the days hitting between the 70’s and 80’s while the nights reach into the 40’s and 50’s. |

Seattle has 3 times the annual rainfall of Los Angeles and only 2/3’s the rainfall of Atlanta Georgia. Seattle has less annual rainfall than Boston, Ma. or Washington DC. But what does this really mean when you “live” in it as opposed to reading about it? |

Where you currently live, (what you are use to..) and the things you like to do will have an impact on your attitude about the weather in a new part of the country. Moving comes with many challenges, one of which is the weather. Some people welcome a change while others do not. If you can learn to “go with the flow” in a new area…..you’ll do just fine! However, if you what things to remain the same as where you are….especially the weather conditions….then go to the KOMO FAQS Page and investigate the weather of the Seattle area more closely. Do enough research to satisfy your curiosity and to allay any fears you might have concerning the adjustment to this area. |

We have lived in many parts of the United States. We love to travel and have visited many places that we have not lived. We hear people say that they would not live in the south because of the humidity. We have heard people say that they would not live up north because of the rain or snow. Some people want four seasons while others want only summertime conditions year round. If you never get to experience the changes that nature can bring, you could miss out on some truly incredible things. |

This is what we have found…..each region offers new experiences, sights, sounds and things to do. Everywhere we have been has enriched our lives and given us an appreciation for things that we knew nothing about. People fear tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding, lightening, snowstorms and tsunamis. We have lived in areas where one or more of these are common during certain seasons. The truth is that wherever you choose to live, you will deal with something you don’t like…..BUT….you can feel confident that those things that reoccur have an acceptable plan set in place to accommodate the needs of people in an emergency. Evacuation routes, early alert sirens, storm tracker systems etc., are common place in today’s world. The best thing about the greater Seattle area’s weather is that it has distinct seasons and is considered to be a temperate climate. Temperate here means, a comfortable or easy place to survive. |

Bumbershoots! These are colorful umbrellas! With expected drizzle of winter days, we brighten the streets with colorful umbrellas. Some of the area shopping centers even offer “loaners” that you pick up when you exit a store and deposit at the door of the next store you enter! How cool is that? |

Four seasons means clothing! If you enjoy changing the selection of clothing in your closets every few months…..it doesn’t get better than this! Down filled parkas in the dead of winter, complete with snazzy boots and razzle-dazzle scarves to snappy shorts and sandals in summer. Don’t be fooled into thinking that there won’t be a chance to sunbathe either! It certainly does get warm enough to swim, kayak, fish, play ball, and even enjoy a game of tennis! People jog here year round as well as bike ride and walk their dogs. |
